The Client

Crown Resorts is one of Australia’s premier entertainment and hospitality providers, with integrated operations across Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney. The group’s properties feature luxury accommodation, casinos, dining, retail, and large-scale event venues operating 24/7. Crown is also recognised for its long-term commitment to environmental sustainability and high-performance building systems. Notably, Crown is a major destination for both domestic and international tourism and plays a key role in hosting major events.

This multi-site project was delivered across Crown’s Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth resorts, with Crown Melbourne serving as the flagship and largest site within the upgrade program. Crown Melbourne is one of Australia’s largest integrated resorts and is central to Crown’s national portfolio.

AE Smith has worked closely with Crown Resorts since the construction of their Melbourne site, supporting a broad range of HVAC and mechanical initiatives. This trusted relationship continues to evolve through Crown’s redevelopment masterplan, where energy efficiency and future-readiness are key priorities.

What we achieved with our Customer

As part of Crown Resorts’ broader masterplan redevelopment, AE Smith implemented a high-impact HVAC energy efficiency upgrade. The project focused on the installation and commissioning of Electronically Pressure Independent Control Valves (EPIC Valves) and Energy Valves across Crown’s Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth facilities.

These systems were strategically installed along key sections of the hydronic pipework network to enable real-time optimisation of chilled water flow. By improving control, visibility, and system responsiveness, the solution directly addressed energy waste and supported Crown’s long-term sustainability goals.

Working across multiple high-occupancy, operational sites required exceptional stakeholder coordination. AE Smith carefully staged installation works to minimise disruption, considering guest occupancy, plantroom access limitations, and ongoing service requirements. Detailed planning and early engagement were essential to integrate new valve systems with legacy infrastructure, avoiding downtime and ensuring ongoing operational reliability.

This national rollout marked the first multi-site deployment of Energy Valves within the Crown portfolio. AE Smith’s delivery approach not only achieved the technical outcomes but set a new benchmark in collaborative planning, energy-smart engineering, and live site execution across complex environments.
