Group Head of HSEQ

AE Smith | Sydney or Melbourne

Lead the next era of safety, quality and operational excellence across one of Australia’s most recognised building services groups.

About the Amplius Group

The Amplius Group brings together some of Australia’s most respected building services businesses - including AE Smith, Nuvo and Envar - delivering mechanical, electrical and specialist technical services across critical infrastructure, commercial, industrial and institutional environments.

Together, the Group combines more than 120 years of industry heritage with a renewed focus on growth, performance, culture and long-term value creation.

Since returning to private ownership in 2023, the Group has entered a new chapter - one focused on building a modern, high-performing building services organisation with strong leadership, operational excellence and customer partnerships at its core.

Across the Group, safety, quality and operational excellence are not viewed as compliance requirements alone - they are defining elements of our culture, reputation and future success.

As part of this next phase, we are looking for an exceptional Group Head of HSEQ to help shape the future of safety, governance, quality and environmental performance across the broader Amplius Group.

This is more than a functional leadership role. It is an opportunity to influence culture, strengthen operational capability, shape strategy, and build a modern HSEQ function that will help define the future direction of the Group.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Managing Director and working closely with the Executive Leadership Team, the Group Head of HSEQ will lead the development and execution of the Group’s HSEQ strategy across multiple business units.

You will play a critical leadership role in strengthening governance, building capability, driving accountability, and embedding a culture where safety, quality and operational excellence are fundamental to how the business performs.

This role will suit someone who:

  • Wants to lead transformation, not simply maintain compliance
  • Sees HSEQ as a driver of culture, operational performance and business success
  • Understands operational risk within building services, construction, infrastructure or technical services environments
  • Knows how to balance strategic direction with practical field leadership
  • Wants the opportunity to build systems, capability and culture that will shape the future of the business

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Group-wide HSEQ strategy, governance and assurance framework
  • Build and strengthen Integrated Management Systems aligned to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001
  • Drive critical risk management, verification and operational assurance activities
  • Lead audit, incident investigation, corrective action and continuous improvement programs
  • Partner with operational leaders to strengthen accountability, engagement and field leadership
  • Drive meaningful cultural improvement across safety, quality and operational performance
  • Provide HSEQ leadership across tenders, project mobilisation and operational activities
  • Deliver meaningful reporting and insights to Executive leadership and the Board
  • Build capability through coaching, mentoring, training and leadership development

About You

You are an experienced HSEQ leader within building services, infrastructure, construction, facilities management or a related operational environment.

You are commercially aware, operationally credible, and highly effective at influencing people at all levels of a business.

Most importantly, you are someone who leads from the front, builds trust quickly, and creates environments where people genuinely want to succeed safely and perform at their best.

You are energised by the opportunity to build, improve and influence - not simply maintain the status quo.

You bring:

  • Leadership experience across safety, quality, environmental and risk functions
  • Strong knowledge of Australian HSEQ legislation and compliance frameworks
  • Experience improving management systems, assurance and governance capability
  • A collaborative leadership style focused on people, culture and continuous improvement
  • The credibility and resilience to drive change within a fast-paced operational environment

Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering, Risk or a related discipline will be highly regarded.

Why Join the Amplius Group?

  • Join an iconic Australian business with more than 120 years of history
  • Be part of a broader building services group with ambitious long-term growth plans
  • Opportunity to shape the future direction of HSEQ across the Amplius Group
  • Significant executive influence and exposure across the business
  • Genuine ability to build systems, capability and culture from the ground up
  • Work alongside a leadership team that values safety, quality and operational excellence
  • Privately owned business with agility, pace and strong growth momentum
  • Remuneration package aligned to the significance and impact of the role

This is a rare opportunity for an ambitious HSEQ leader to help shape the future of a growing Australian building services group and create meaningful, lasting impact across the business and its people.
