Shift Electrician – Southern Cross Station

Be the first responder for one of Melbourne’s busiest and most recognisable transport hubs.

Nuvo Group is seeking an experienced and adaptable Shift Electrician to join our facilities team at Southern Cross Station. Working on behalf of Honeywell, you will help provide continuous 24/7 coverage and keep this major public facility safe, operational and moving.

This is not a conventional electrician role. You will be the first point of contact for base-building and retail faults across the station, responding to electrical issues while also supporting a diverse range of building, security, communications and general facilities systems.

The Opportunity

You will work a five-week rotating roster comprising 12-hour day and night shifts.

Your workload will vary from day to day and include planned preventive maintenance, fault-finding, emergency response, contractor coordination and general make-safe works.

During night shifts, you will operate as a broad facilities first responder. This requires a practical, team-first attitude and a willingness to assist with tasks outside traditional electrical work such changing failed toilet seats and unblocking toilets; electrical faults; floor and tact tile repairs; make safes until morning – ie smashed glass; as when needed to keep the station safe and operational.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond to electrical, base-building and retail faults throughout the station
• Complete electrical repairs, fault-finding, minor works and make-safe activities
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance across station assets
• Investigate faults involving CCTV, passenger information displays and PA systems
• Support basic troubleshooting of network-connected equipment
• Assist with fire-panel faults, isolations and system resets
• Monitor and respond to HVAC, BMS, chiller and plant-room issues
• Support security and access-control systems, including EBI and door controls
• Barricade unsafe escalators and lifts and coordinate specialist contractors
• Assist with lift entrapment procedures where required and appropriately trained
• Complete minor plumbing, flooring, tactile-tile and general facility repairs
• Make safe hazards such as damaged glass until permanent repairs can be completed
• Issue permits and keys and provide access or escorts for contractors
• Raise, update and close work orders using Honeywell’s facilities software
• Record faults, communicate job status and complete site administration

Planned Maintenance Activities

Preventive maintenance is allocated across the team each month and may include:

• Switchboard inspections
• RCD testing
• Thermal imaging
• Air circuit breaker servicing
• Generator shutdowns and black-start testing
• Chiller and plant-room inspections
• Water and gas meter readings
• High-level lighting repairs
• General electrical inspection and testing

About You

You are a capable electrician who remains calm when responding to urgent faults and enjoys working across a broad range of building systems. You understand that keeping a major transport facility operational sometimes means stepping outside a narrow trade remit and helping wherever required.

You will ideally have:

• A current Victorian A Grade Electrical Licence
• Demonstrated experience in electrical maintenance and fault-finding
• Availability to work a rotating roster of 12-hour day and night shifts
• A strong commitment to safety and accurate permit procedures
• Confidence working independently as the first responder to site issues
• Good computer skills and the ability to complete electronic work orders
• Clear communication skills when dealing with clients, contractors and retailers
• A practical, flexible and hands-on approach to general facilities maintenance
• An interest in developing your knowledge of BMS, HVAC, CCTV, fire, security and network-connected systems

Experience within a large commercial facility, transport hub, critical environment or 24/7 maintenance operation will be highly regarded.

About the role

Based in our Hawthorn East office, we are looking for an experienced Billing Administrator to join our Operational Support team. This role is responsible for ensuring billing and related financial administration is completed accurately, efficiently and in line with contractual requirements and business deadlines.

This is not simply a data-entry position. The successful candidate will understand how their work contributes to regional and functional billing volumes, cash flow, margin performance and broader financial targets. You will work closely with operational managers, service teams, finance and other support functions to resolve issues, maintain billing momentum and help the business achieve its monthly objectives.

The environment is fast-paced, and priorities, processes and information will not always be perfectly defined. We are looking for someone who is resilient, adaptable and comfortable working through changing requirements and a reasonable level of ambiguity. You will need to use initiative, ask the right questions and keep work moving without compromising accuracy or compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Process service, maintenance, reactive and quoted-work billing accurately and within required timeframes.
• Manage a high volume of billing activity while maintaining attention to detail and work quality.
• Monitor individual, regional and functional billing volumes and contribute to the achievement of monthly financial and operational targets.
• Review work orders, technician inputs and supporting documentation to ensure billing requirements have been met.
• Ensure invoices comply with customer contracts, agreed rates, documentation standards and client portal requirements.
• Identify and resolve missing information, pricing discrepancies, rejected claims and other issues that may delay billing.
• Apply basic financial and commercial principles, including revenue, cost, margin, GST and invoice calculations.
• Work with Service Delivery Managers to prioritise urgent billing and address operational or commercial queries.
• Assist with accounts receivable, accounts payable, finance queries and aged-debt resolution where required.
• Prepare and contribute to financial and operational reporting.
• Build effective working relationships with operational teams, finance, customers, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Support improvements to billing, procure-to-pay and reporting processes.
• Maintain compliance with company policies, contractual requirements and reporting deadlines.

About you

You will suit this role if you take ownership of your work and are motivated by producing accurate, timely outcomes. You understand that successful billing is measured not only by the quality of individual invoices, but also by the team’s ability to meet volume, revenue and cash-flow targets.

You are comfortable working in an environment where priorities can change quickly and where resolving an issue may require investigation, judgement and follow-up across several teams. You remain calm under pressure, recover quickly from setbacks and can adapt your approach as business and customer requirements evolve.

You are likely to have:

• At least five years’ experience in billing, service contract administration, finance administration or a similar operational environment.
• Experience working in a high-volume, fast-paced role with competing priorities and firm deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail and a demonstrated commitment to accuracy.
• A practical understanding of basic finance and accounting concepts, including revenue, costs, margins, GST and aged debt.
• The ability to interpret contracts, agreed rates, work-order information and supporting documentation.
• Experience using an ERP or financial management system, with SAP experience highly regarded.
• Strong Excel and general Microsoft Office skills.
• Sound analytical and problem-solving ability.
• The confidence to investigate discrepancies, follow up missing information and escalate issues appropriately.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day operations of multiple Electrical & Mechanical projects, coordinating with clients, subcontractors and internal teams to ensure timely and efficient project delivery
• Develop and implement detailed project plans, managing budgets, resources and timelines to meet project objectives
• Identify and mitigate risks, issues and challenges that may impact project delivery, and implement effective strategies to address them
• Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, environmental and quality standards throughout the project lifecycle
• Foster strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and other stakeholders, providing regular updates and managing expectations
• Lead and mentor junior project managers, providing guidance and support to develop their skills and capabilities

What we're looking for

• Minimum 5 years of demonstrated experience as a Project Manager within an Electrical OR Mechanical Contractor
• Proven track record of successfully delivering complex Electrical projects, with a strong understanding of construction methods, technologies and industry best practices

You will oversee and manage all aspects of HVAC projects within the building and construction industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of professionals, ensuring project timelines and budgets are met, and delivering high-quality results to clients.

The opportunity

AE Smith is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join our team on a

12-month fixed-term contract covering maternity leave.

Working closely with the Head of Commercial and senior business leaders, you will develop and implement effective commercial strategies, strengthen contract management practices and protect the organisation’s contractual and financial interests.

This is an opportunity for a commercially astute professional who combines strong contract expertise with sound judgement, influential communication skills and a collaborative approach.

Key responsibilities

In this role, you will:

• Provide commercial advice across head contracts, projects and service agreements
• Review and negotiate contract terms with clients, suppliers and subcontractors
• Prepare and review contractual notices, time claims, cost claims and supporting documentation
• Manage contract administration, claims, disputes and commercial risk
• Develop commercial strategies that protect contractual entitlements and support business objectives
• Implement project performance measures and commercial controls
• Monitor budgets, expenditure and financial performance
• Identify commercial risks and recommend practical mitigation strategies
• Coordinate with internal and external legal advisers as required
• Build strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders
• Mentor team members and strengthen commercial capability across the business
• Identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity and commercial outcomes
• Promote a proactive safety culture and model responsible workplace behaviours

About you

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

• At least four years’ senior commercial or contract management experience in a comparable environment
• A tertiary qualification in commercial management, law or a related discipline
• Strong knowledge of the Australian construction market and common forms of contract
• Demonstrated experience reviewing and negotiating head contracts and subcontract agreements
• Experience preparing and managing contractual claims and notices
• A strong record of resolving commercial issues while minimising formal disputes and litigation
• Well-developed commercial awareness and financial acumen
• Strong analytical, negotiation and problem-solving capabilities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• The ability to influence and build trusted relationships at all levels
• A collaborative, ethical and solutions-focused approach

Postgraduate qualifications or a law degree will be highly regarded.
