Project
Electrical Maintenance and Energy Efficiency
Upgrades
Key Challenges
- Public Foot Traffic: With over 5 million passengers
monthly, the Interchange Facility connects to both
regional and airport services, as well as suburban and
interstate train and coach lines, SCS is an extremely
high-traffic environment. - 24/7 Operations: Large sections of the station remain
open at all times, requiring careful scheduling of work. - Restricted Access & Safety Protocols: Strict access
times for platforms and station areas, along with close
coordination with the train network and public safety
measures.
Outcomes
Maintain 24/7 electrical reliability at a busy transport hub
Upgrade lighting with energy-efficient solutions alongside FM provider
Ensure zero downtime with coordinated, safety-first maintenance
The Client
Nuvo is a long-standing electrical services provider supporting Honeywell, supporting Honeywell in their TAM (Total Asset Management) contracts. Nuvo provides 24/7 electrical trade support and Project Management 365 days a year. Nuvo provides a combination of planned and reactive maintenance services for Honeywell who are the Facilities Management (FM) partner responsible for all aspects of Southern Cross Station’s (SCS) operations. Nuvo has worked alongside Honeywell for over a decade, delivering continuous electrical and trade support services to ensure station functionality and safety.
Southern Cross Station is one of Australia’s busiest transportation hubs, with approximately 63 million passengers transiting through the Interchange Facility annually via rail and bus networks. Its central role in Melbourne’s public transport system requires exceptional operational standards, stringent safety protocols, and high responsiveness—all of which Nuvo plays a critical role in assisting to maintain.
What we achieved with our customer
This ongoing project focuses on ensuring uninterrupted electrical service and asset reliability across Southern Cross Station’s complex operational environment. Nuvo provides 24/7 support, delivering planned and reactive maintenance to maintain compliance and performance without disrupting core station functions. A rotating 5-week technician roster is in place to provide full coverage, including 12-hour day and night shifts. This is supported by Train Track Safety Awareness Training for all onsite technicians, ensuring full compliance with railway safety procedures. These practices enable Nuvo to operate effectively in safety-restricted zones without compromising public access or network operations.
Nuvo’s reliability and effectiveness in this role have been recognised by Honeywell, particularly in upholding operational continuity and rigorous safety standards. Working closely with Honeywell, Nuvo also consults on and implements energy-efficient LED lighting upgrades throughout the station precinct. By coordinating black starts and other critical electrical tasks during non-peak hours, Nuvo reinforces power reliability and improves long-term sustainability for the site.
“Nuvo’s onsite team continues to deliver dependable service with a proactive approach to maintenance servicing, ensuring a priority focus on
