The Client
The Downer EDI Rail Maintenance Facility in Auburn plays a vital role in supporting Sydney’s passenger rail network. As a major hub for rolling stock maintenance, overhaul and reliability programs, the facility ensures that trains remain safe, compliant and operational across New South Wales. Its operations form an essential component of the state’s transport infrastructure.
Nuvo has supported the facility since its commissioning in 2009, delivering uninterrupted electrical maintenance services for more than 16 years. This longstanding partnership reflects the trust placed in Nuvo’s technical capability, operational reliability and sustained performance in a demanding industrial environment.
What we achieved with our Customer
Nuvo’s ongoing work at the Downer EDI Rail Maintenance Facility focuses on delivering comprehensive electrical maintenance that ensures the site operates without interruption. This includes scheduled preventative maintenance, switchboard inspections, thermographic scanning, compliance testing and rapid fault response. Over time, Nuvo has taken on specialised work previously delivered by interstate contractors, reducing outsourcing costs and streamlining operational efficiency.
The team plays a key role in coordinating and overseeing other on‑site contractors, allowing Downer to concentrate on core operational priorities. This partnership-driven approach strengthens the facility’s overall service delivery model and supports long-term reliability across critical electrical systems.
A significant component of Nuvo’s contribution involved upgrading the facility’s lighting systems. Large sections of the site have been converted to LED lighting, resulting in substantial energy savings
All removed lamps were disposed of through environmentally responsible recycling processes, and Nuvo supported the client in securing LED upgrade credits to further offset project costs.
Progressive upgrades continue to be implemented across remaining areas of the facility, ensuring ongoing improvements in energy efficiency and lighting performance. This work, combined with Nuvo’s responsive maintenance approach, contributes to improved operational resilience, reduced risk and sustained reliability across a 24/7 environment.
”For over 16 years, Nuvo has been a trusted partner, providing continuous, reliable support across our 24/7 operation”
