General Manager – NSW

AE Smith | Sydney

Lead the next era of one of Australia’s most recognised building services businesses.

AE Smith has been shaping Australia’s mechanical and electrical services industry for more than 120 years. Today, we are building again. Since returning to private ownership in 2023, AE Smith has entered a new chapter - one focused on growth, team culture, customer partnerships, and long-term success. With strong momentum across both projects and services, major contract wins, and a highly capable leadership team in place, we are looking for an exceptional General Manager to lead our NSW business into its next phase.

This is more than a leadership role.  It is an opportunity to build a business, shape a culture, develop great people, and leave a lasting mark on the industry.

We are looking for a leader who wants to create something meaningful and help shape the future of one of Australia’s most established building services groups.

The Opportunity

Based in Sydney and reporting directly to the Managing Director, the General Manager will hold full P&L responsibility for our NSW operations across Mechanical and Electrical Services, including maintenance and project delivery. You will lead a significant business with an established customer base, strong market reputation, and substantial growth opportunity across both existing and emerging sectors. We are looking for a leader who thrives on building high-performing teams, developing customer relationships, driving accountability, and creating a culture where people genuinely want to succeed together.

This role will suit someone who:

  • Wants to lead a growing business, not just manage one
  • Understands both projects and recurring service operations
  • Knows how to build strong teams and strong customer relationships
  • Brings an understanding of the detail, commercial outcomes and operational capability
  • Has the drive and energy to create momentum and make a genuine impact

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow the NSW business across Projects and Services
  • Build a high-performance culture focused on teamwork, accountability, and customer outcomes
  • Develop and strengthen strategic customer relationships across key accounts
  • Drive business growth, profitability, and operational performance
  • Ensure projects and services are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards
  • Contribute to the broader strategic direction of AE Smith and the Amplius Group

About You

You are an experienced leader within HVAC, Electrical, Building Services, or a related technical services environment. Most importantly, you are someone who leads from the front, builds trust quickly, and creates environments where teams perform at their best. You are energised by growth, motivated by building successful teams, and excited by the opportunity to help shape the future of a business with strong momentum and significant ambition.

MBA or formal leadership qualifications will be highly regarded but are not essential.

Why Join AE Smith?

  • Lead an iconic Australian business with over 120 years of history
  • Be part of a broader building services group with ambitious long-term growth plans
  • Significant growth opportunity backed by strong market momentum
  • Privately owned business with agility, pace, and long-term vision
  • Established blue-chip customer base across critical assets and infrastructure
  • Opportunity to influence strategy and shape the future direction of the broader Amplius Group
  • Strong executive support and leadership alignment
  • Executive remuneration package designed to attract and reward high-performing leaders

This is a rare opportunity for an ambitious industry leader to step into a role with genuine influence, autonomy, and long-term opportunity.

If you are looking to build something meaningful, create a lasting impact, and lead a business with momentum, we would like to hear from you.
